The Council of Licensed Firearm Owners (COLFO) has today sent in our submission on the Arms Bill Consultation 2026, which replaces the 1983 Arms Act. This submission has been co-signed by over 6,897 people and organisations who believe that, while this bill is an improvement on the Arms Act 1983, it can be substantively improved.
The submission is the cumulative work of each major shooting discipline and more than a century's worth of combined experience from the volunteer COLFO committee. You can read our full submission via the link below, and if you have not yet made your submission, you have until MIDNIGHT tonight.
We highly recommend using the Submission generator tool Which you can find here. Please remember you MUST add your own ideas and send this to the government for it to be counted. You can find the government submission page here. We encourage you to check out guides published by our member organizations, the NZDA, SSANZ, and others, if you need inspiration.
We thank each and every one of you for the trust you showed COLFO for basing your support on our guide and submission generator points, and for putting in the work and making your own personal submissions. Although this is a fraction of the number we were hoping for, given that major organizations such as the Firearms Safety Authority were all but absent until the final week, we are confident that our team could not have done more to raise awareness.
More to come as we prepare for our verbal presentations, and the next steps to growing shooting sports, and COLFO to ensure that the future of licensed firearm owners in NZ is bright. We will be livestreaming on Facebook to draw the spot prizes tomorrow.
Cheers,
Council of Licensed Firearm Owners
COLFO
