OIA Response: Technical Inspection of Imported Firearms

COLFO asked the Firearms Safety Authority, as a follow-up to an earlier request (IR-01-26-14459), how many staff with technical expertise inspect firearms being imported into New Zealand.

The Authority said that between 2020 and June 2025 one Armourer was employed on contract for sample examinations. Since July 2025 sampling has been done by members of the Police Armoury, where any of 10 staff may complete examinations depending on resourcing and demand.
