OIA Response: Traffic Offending and Fit and Proper Assessments

COLFO asked under the Official Information Act how traffic infringements, demerit points and other driving matters are considered when Police and the Firearms Safety Authority assess whether a licence holder is fit and proper.

The Authority released its Fit and Proper Policy and data on driving related matters that were formally investigated, but withheld an operational guideline document. It reported 3,922 driving related records involving licence holders from March 2021 to 19 August 2026, and said these figures do not show that driving matters were a material factor in any decision.
